NDAB Board Meeting Minutes

Sept. 8, 2019

President Zelda called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M. Present were Trampes, Mickey, Shereen, Gretchen, Zelda, Allan, Rebecca and Mary. Mark was absent.

Reports

Secretary’s Report

Approved by email since the last board meeting were:
Increase guest fee for Recreation Retreat from $67 to $75
Convention minutes
Using t-shirts as door prizes at the state convention and the ACB national convention (approved earlier by email, but previously omitted from the minutes)

Sympathy cards were sent to:
Tracy Wicken for the death of her sister
Elton and Shereen Faber for the death of Elton’s brother
Paula Anundson for the death of her son-in-law

Treasurer’s Report

Allan made a motion to approve the June, July and August written reports. Mickey seconded. MSC. Kathryn Schmidt stepped down as authorized signer for the First International Bank and Trust and Bremer accounts. Rebecca talked to Deb Johnsen and she agreed to take the position. Shereen made a motion to accept Kathryn’s resignation and approve Deb Johnsen as our new authorized signer for accounts at First International Bank and Bremer accounts. Gretchen 2nd. MSC.

Development Director

Walk for Vision will be on Oct. 12 and will observe White Cane Safety Day. Allan has a venue lined up for the event in Fargo. Hoping to get more cities to take part. NDAB is registered for Giving Hearts Day. Allan is hoping to use Lions and Charitable Gaming donations for the match that is needed. Allan will be attending the kick off on Sept. 30th.

Dial NDAB

Mickey told the board that the site is down due to the Philmore Production server being down. Due to this there has been a delay uploading information. There is a sample recording. We are not paying until the server is back up.

Membership

There were six individuals applying for membership:

Kevin (Doug) Puetz, Rapid City, SD
Myrtice Zorn, Bottineau, ND
Dorothy Clark, Bottineau, ND

Mickey made a motion to approve the applications of new members. Allan seconded. MSC.

Sports and Recreation

The committee has met several times. The Retreat is Oct. 4, 5 and 6 at Wesley Acres. There are ten confirmed attendees so far. The committee will be working on a contract to be used when individuals or groups use NDAB equipment.

Unfinished Business

Review reveals that no check was written to the ND School for the Blind Foundation for career exploration in 2018.

Zelda is looking to set up a committee to develop guidelines and policies for the Life Enrichment Fund approved at convention. Shereen and Trampes volunteered.

New Business

Amy Osvold sent an e-mail about the NDVS/SB Blindfold Brunch at the Conference of Social Welfare Sept. 25-27 at the Ramada in Fargo. She offered to have NDAB information at the NDVS/SB booth.

Optometric Association will be having their conference on Oct. 4 and 5 in Fargo. The Lions will be having their 2019 Convention Oct. 25 and 26 in Dickinson.

Zelda will be writing a letter to the ND Disability Advocacy Consortium seeking their involvement in promoting accessible prescription labeling.

Just Talking call will be Sept. 17th about the Recreation Retreat. Trampes will host the call as Zelda won’t be available. The October Just Talking call will be Oct. 15th with the topic being a review of the 2019 ACB Convention.

Allan made a motion to adjourn. Mickey seconded. MSC. Meeting was adjourned at 9:12 p.m.

The next meeting will be Oct. 20th at 6:30.
